nia t. evans is a freelance journalist based in New York City. She writes about race, protest, democracy, and culture. Her work in print and online can be found in several publications, including Dissent, Prism, Electric Literature, Teen Vogue, and Slate. She has held fellowships at Mother Jones and Boston Review and worked as an editorial staffer at Hammer & Hope.

In a past life, nia was an education advocate and researcher at the National Women’s Law Center. Her research on dress codes was featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History exhibit “Girlhood (It’s Complicated).” She has appeared as a commentator on WNYC’s The Takeaway, DC’s WAMU 88.5, and other public radio outlets.
